Our theme this year is “Carpe Diem” or Seize the Day – emphasizing that there is no better day than today to lead a healthy lifestyle and impact others to do the same. All proceeds go to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Clinical neuroscientist Catherine Wiseman-Hakes, PhD (Rehabilitation Sciences), will give an overview of her current research program and provide an interactive introduction to sleep science and the critical role of sleep in cognition and day-time function. She will also discuss potential graduate and career path opportunities for psychology and neuroscience students.

Dr. Wiseman-Hakes guest talk will be featured as part of the annual Psychology Careers Night; however, all faculties are welcome!

Queen’s TALKS is a student run initiative presented by the AMS Peer Support Centre, spreading the word that you don’t have to be an expert to help a friend. About the Peer Support Centre:

The Peer Support Centre is a student-run service whose mission is to enhance the well-being of the diverse student population at Queen’s University by providing drop-in and call-in one-on-one support, as well as support groups. Student volunteers provide welcoming, confidential, and empathetic peer-based support using active listening, resource referral, information guidance, and practical assistance. The Peer Support Centre is operated by the Alma Mater Society through its Social Issues Commission and is supported by Queen’s University’s Health, Counselling, and Disability Services.

  • Eric Windeler and Justin Scaini of The Jack Project will speak about the Unleash the Noise initiative
  • A Queen’s student, Mateya Dimnik, will share her personal perspective of living with a mental illness
  • Lisa Sansom, an expert in positive psychology, will speak about strategies for maintaining good mental health
  • Peer Support Centre will discuss support strategies and will launch the Queen’s TALKS initiative

Food and refreshments will be provided by Common Ground. Media coverage, including CBC The National, will be present.

On Sunday, March 24th, 2013, the Queen’s University Crohn’s and Colitis Committee (ASUS) will host the 2nd Annual Gutsy Walk around the campus!  Whether it be students, family members or friends, IBD has profound impacts on students across the country. Together we can help find the cure!

Last year, we raised over $6000 and plan to beat that this year!

Join us in walking, running, cycling, longboarding or even skipping the 5km course.  Our event will finish outside of Stauffer Library, where there will be a BBQ.    Come on out and join us for this great event!

“Escape the Winter Blues” Court Volleyball Tournament

Queen’s Relay for Life is a 12-hour overnight fundraising event in support of the Canadian Cancer Society. The goal is to raise money in support of cancer research, awareness, and provide services to those living with cancer.

We encourage Queen’s students to make a team of approximately 10 people to fundraise and participate in the night of the event. There will be various entertainment and activities running throughout the night, including: Brampton Acro Ropers skipping, Queen’s Improv, Zumba Lessons, and Trivia, among many others!

  3. You must attach your clothespin to your target when you have caught them. Your acquired target then must give you THEIR clothespin with their target’s name and THAT PERSON is your new target.

Prof Ian Frazer led in the development of Papilloma Virus Vaccines against cervical cancers that are now being used globally under the brand names Gardasil and Cervarix. Over 60 million women worldwide have been vaccinated. He is now investigating vaccines against skin cancer associated with polyomaviruses

Dr. Ian Frazer, CEO and Director of Research of the Translational Research Institute in Brisbane Australia, led in the development of Papilloma Vaccines against cervical cancers that are now being used globally under the brand names Gardasil and Cervarix.

Over 60 million women worldwide have been vaccinated. Please join us for the Brockington Public Lecture, ‘How to Live a Long and Happy Life’ followed by a public reception in the foyer of Ellis Auditorium. This lecture will be translated for the hearing impaired.

Lunchtime Breathing Meditations @ Ban Righ Centre

Protect your mind against stress with a 30-minute breathing meditation. All are welcome– students, staff, faculty, women & men! Anyone who needs relaxation and a calm mind.

No meditation experience necessary. Each session is self-contained. Suitable for beginners & experienced meditators.

We meet in the Flower Pot Room, lower level. Once you enter the Ban Righ Centre, turn left. Just before the kitchen is a small stairway to the lower level.
